(EVERETT, WA.) -- Sultan's Mayor Carolyn Eslick has a new gig. She was appointed earlier this week at the Snohomish County Council Chambers to fill a vacancy in the State House of Representatives.

Eslick will fill the position that was held by Republican John Koster of Arlington who resigned. She was sworn into office after the meeting and will serve through the 2018 election.

To get the job Eslick defeated former Monroe Mayor Robert Zimmerman over four rounds of voting.

The Sultan Mayor, who can keep that job if she desires, will serve as representative for the 39th legislative district, a rural district that contains most of Snohomish and Skagit counties and the northeastern corner of King County.

She'll be paid $42,106 a year and $90 per day when the legislature's in session.
