ACCIDENT ON SR 2 IN SULTAN SENDS TWO TO HOSPITAL

This story originally ran Sept. 12 as the Chronicle front page feature story

(SULTAN, WA) -- State Route 2 through Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar and all points east heading to and over Stevens Pass is an always dangerous stretch of highway.

A little over a year ago a major 5-vehicle accident that involved 12 people on the highway just outside Monroe injured eight of those 12 people, closed the road for hours and backed up traffic for miles.

Even on a bright, sunny day with nary a cloud in the sky like Friday morning, accidents on SR 2 can happen out of the blue.

Such as the collision of two cars just after 9:00 am Friday at the intersection of 4th Street in Sultan and State Route 2.

"There is a detour on the highway between 3rd and 5th Streets. The alleged causing driver of the collision was believed to have been involved in a hit and run reported around 9 a.m. in Monroe," said Shari Ireton, Director of Communications for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Drivers of both vehicles were taken to local hospitals. No further details on the accident were available Friday.

A big thanks to anonymous "drive by shooter" who captured photos of one of the wrecked cars in the accident and shot them over to the Chronicle.
