STEVENS PASS OPENS FOR SKIING TODAY
November 19, 2009

(STEVENS PASS) -- It’s a good day for skiers and snowboarders as the Stevens Pass Ski resort opens for the season today amidst forecasts of much more snow today and tomorrow.

At the outset of the season hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. No night operations yet and early season conditions exist. It is recommended that skiers and boarders stay to groomed runs.

The Nordic Center opens December 19th.

Day lifts that are scheduled to be open, conditions permitting are SkyLine, Hogsback, Daisy, Brooks, Kehr's Chair & Tye Mill. Those are subject to change based on conditions and lift usage.

At 4:30 this morning it was 24 degrees as Stevens where the resort got eight inches of new snow overnight. Currently there is a 48-inch base.

The ski run groomers report, once the season gets underway with full operations, will be updated between 5:00am and 6:00am daily.

Runs are groomed nightly and the groomer’s report reflects what was groomed during the previous night, after the resort has been closed to guest access.

During storm cycles, snow can accumulate on the runs after grooming has taken place, altering surface conditions. Prior to opening the resort, if time allows, the resort’s grooming team attempts to re-groom many of the more popular runs to preserve a consistent surface.

The groomer’s reports can be viewed here: http://www.stevenspass.com/

You can keep a constant, 24-hr visual on the resort's runs and Stevens Pass itself by using the Sky Valley Chronicle's TRAFFIC CAMS located in top right hand corner of the front page!
