CALL TO HELP FOR LOCAL CHURCHES
December 24, 2008

(SKY VALLEY) -- John E. Pennington, Director of the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management issued a call to Sky Valley area churches today requesting immediate assistance.

“The seemingly continual snow storms that have hit our county and the region have become increasingly burdensome on our most vulnerable citizens,” said Pennington in a statement.
He added, “City and county Pubic Works departments and their snow plow crews have worked non-stop for over a week and are still overwhelmed. There is simply too much snow to plow and not enough equipment or personnel. Additionally, there is a high likelihood now that roofs (especially flat roofs) are reaching maximum load capacity and collapses may begin occurring soon. Reaching those that need medication, groceries, etc is becoming increasingly important.”

Pennington asked area churches to make contact with “not only your shut-ins, but with your neighbors that you may feel need assistance during this storm.”

Pennington said his department will try to direct limited resources to them as quickly as possible but identifying the areas and individuals of concern is now the agency’s primary goal.

Area churches that locate members who need help, and cannot for some reason be helped by other church members or individuals in the community are asked to contact any of the following numbers for assistance:

Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management: PH 425-388-5060

Snohomish County 211: PH 211

Immediate Emergency Assistance: PH 911
