| | SHORT TIME REMAINS TO GET PAPERWORK IN FOR FREE GOV'T $$$$$$$$$ September 02, 2010

(SNOHOMISH) -- There’s nothing like a few free government dollars to perk up wilted sprits in times of great recessions.
A lot of folks in the construction industry could use a few thousand government “bridge to nowhere” projects right about now.
All things considered, free government dough is generally considered preferable to a punch in the nose, the onslaught of arthritis or an unexpected visit from an IRS agent.
But unless you get your paperwork in soon, that money shall fly away to the earliest bird that always catches that proverbial worm.
There’s about 20 days remaining for non-profit agencies in the area to submit applications to the city of Snohomish to grab a share of some nine-thousand ($9,000) government bucks that are up for grabs.
WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR
The money is earmarked for projects that assist “tourism development and promotion” in the City.
The dough comes your way compliments of those dreaded taxes that many folks dislike – specifically the taxes imposed on lodging room rentals in the City of Snohomish (which in turn provides one the perfect opening to say “your tax dollars at work!” in all seriousness should one be so inclined.)
The money shall flow forth like manna from above after January 1, 2011 on a “reimbursement basis only” for projects that will be completed by December 31, 2011.
That means your non-profit fronts the dough for the project, and then you get paid later for the money you put up.
Of course it is widely believed in some circles the smartest thing any non-profit could do to boost tourism in the city by 120% would be to take that money and buy some seriously big, beautiful, powerful ads in the mighty SkyValleyChronicle.com – the most on-fire, fastest growing, most heavily read news source in the region – but of course that is another matter entirely and one that many non-profits will no doubt consider as a prime destination point for the dough once they get the gig.
So be sure that your non-profit agency’s application is in (with all lines completed and in a legible fashion) to the city of Snohomish by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22.
The location is at 116 Union Avenue, Snohomish, WA 98290.
Detailed instructions and an application form (necessary for a successful application) may be found on the City’s website at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.
Applicants will be requested to “present” their projects (an event often described by sales professionals as a “dog & pony show”) to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee meeting set for Monday, September 27, 2010 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the City of Snohomish City Hall, again at 116 Union Avenue.
It would not hurt to show up in your Sunday best (neatness counts) and be of pleasant disposition and a hearty demeanor.
Applicants will be contacted to confirm the presentation time.
