NEW SENIOR CENTER JUST MONTHS AWAY
July 11, 2008

(SNOHOMISH, WA) -- After operating out of a local church for several years supporters of a new senior center in Snohomish are just a few months away from realizing their dream.

Construction of the new Snohomish Senior Center, which began three months ago in the 500 block of Fourth Street, is expected to be completed by December. It is a 6,000 square-foot facility being built a cost of about $1.5 Million dollars.

There have been lengthy delays in the project. One of them was caused by an old cemetery location. Under the original plans the building was set to be constructed on the grounds of a former cemetery in Snohomish. However the project was forced to move to the current location after archaeologists discovered almost 100 possible burial sites that might still contain human remains.

The center is some $300,000 short of the $1.5 million needed to finish the project. Those wishing to donate toward raising the final $300,000 may purchase a memorial tile that will become part of the new center.
