(MONROE, WA.) -- The state patrol says residents from Sultan, Marysville, Snohomish, Buckley & Mukilteo, Washington were injured in a bad pileup of six vehicles, including a logging truck Monday morning on Highway 2.
The accident happened between 88th street and Highway 9, roughly between Monroe and Snohomish. Four people were hospitalized and one was airlifted from the scene.
The pileup occurred just before 11:30 am. The state patrol says a logging truck was westbound on Highway 2 when an SUV, headed eastbound, crossed the center line for reasons unknown near 88th Street.
The log truck driver swerved into the eastbound lanes to avoid a head-on with the SUV and as a result the big rig lost control of it's load and spilled the logs onto Highway 2.
Four other vehicles then smashed into the logging truck and finally a pickup hit the debris that was in the road. The accident blocked the roadway in both directions between 88th Street and SR-9 for more than seven hours.
The highway wasn't reopened until 6:30
The state patrol report says injured in the crashes were:
.......Lavonne L. Counley, 68, of Snohomish, WA the driver of a black 2005 Lincoln Aviator SUV. The vehicle was totaled, she was transported to Providence Hospital in Everett.
.......19-year old Hannah M. Blanciet of Sultan, WA the driver of a black 1994 Toyota Truck. The vehicle was totaled, she was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
........36-year old Harold A. Pugh of Marysville, WA, the driver of a white 2010 Ford Ecoline van that was totaled in the accident and 52-year old Vance E. Fisher of Edmonds, WA a passenger in the van. Both were taken to Providence Hospital in Everett.
Not injured were:
.......a 4-year old female from Snohomish, a passenger in the black Lincoln Aviator SUV.
.......61-year old Barry L. Purtteman of Buckley, WA the driver of a red 2015 Kenworth construction truck hauling two loaded logging trailers. The vehicle was totaled.
.......44-year old Darren L. Wickman of Buckley, WA the driver of a white 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
.......70-year old Glen A. Macdonald of Mukilteo, WA the driver of a blue 2005 Lexus GX470 sedan and 58-year old Svetlana MacDonald a passenger in the Lexus GX470 sedan.
The patrol report says the cause of the pileup was the SUV "crossing the center line" and that charges are pending.
