NEW MONROE PARK GOES TO THE DOGS
July 14, 2008
(MONROE, WA) -- Ah, it’s a dog’s life when the boss of the house takes off the leash and let’s Fido run like the wind amidst the cool, green grass of summer. After a year of planning the city of Monroe celebrates the opening of its new off-leash dog park, Wiggly Field, this Saturday July 19 at Sky River Park at 413 Sky River Parkway. The opening celebration is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Both dogs & dog owners love
The city’s parks and recreation department raised more than $5,000 in donations to make the park possible by installing a new fence around the area and obtaining dispensers for bags to collect the inevitable doggie business that man’s best friend often leaves as a calling card.
Besides installing the fence, volunteers added a dog agility course they obtained from the police department and repaired for installation at the park. Numerous dog lovers in the city donated their time and talents to make the park a reality.
Dog owners are expected to abide by the rules of the park which include being close enough to their pet at all times to be able to control the animal with verbal commands, be in direct supervision of the dog at all times and prevent the dog from becoming a nuisance to others by harassing other dogs or dog owners, tipping over garbage cans or darting out into traffic.
