| | HOW TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE SKY VALLEY CHRONICLE March 08, 2010

(SKY VALLEY) -- If you are new to the Sky Valley Chronicle, welcome! This piece will show you how the Chronicle is laid out and the best ways to navigate through it.
The Sky Valley Chronicle is formatted so that:
1. Just the headlines of “Breaking News” stories (seen on top left corner of home page) are located there. Click on those "breaking news" headlines to read the full story on the inside pages.
2. Headlines and a short introductory paragraph of stories are elsewhere on the front page located under each town heading such as MONROE NEWS, SNOHOMISH NEWS, etc.
FRONT PAGE: TO SEE THE REST OF A STORY DO THIS:
In the BREAKING NEWS column on front page just click a headline of any story you wish to read. Doing so will take you to a new page where the complete story resides.
When you see a story on the front page underneath a town’s category - such as SNOHOMISH NEWS - and you wish to read the rest of the story beyond the first paragraph just click the blue letters at bottom of each story’s first paragraph that says FULL STORY. Doing so will take you to a new page where the complete story resides.
THUMB NAIL PICTURES ON INSIDE PAGES
For stories located on the onside pages that have a thumbnail photo to the right or upper right of the story, simply click on the thumbnail to enlarge the photo.
ON INSIDE PAGES HOW TO FIND MORE STORIES FOR THAT TOWN
Once you are on an inside page – which is any page that is not the “front” page – and you’d like to see more stories associated with a town’s category (for example the category MONROE NEWS) simply look up at the top right of the page for the small box that says MORE HEADLINES.
In that box you’ll see four or five story headlines with the word MORE at bottom of those headlines.
The headlines in that box are recent stories for that town category so you can either click on a headline to see the story OR click in the box where it says MORE and that will take you back in time in the archives of recent stories in that town’s category.
If you were to keep clicking the word MORE in that headline box each time a new page pops up you would keep going back in time to see the stories in that archive associated with that town’s category.
TO FIND STORIES ASSOCIATED WITH ONLY ONE TOWN
If we wish to see only stories about MONROE for example, click on Monroe’s CATEGORY HEADING on the far left side of the front page. Doing so will take you to the most recent stories about Monroe. Want go back in time from there?
TO GO BACK IN TIME TO FIND STORIES
At the bottom of that page – the one you reached AFTER you clicked on Monroe’s CATEGORY HEADING on far left side of the front page – just click the next series of stories that are numbered in blue letters at bottom of the page: such as 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, etc.
Clicking the block 16-20 (for example) will take you back in time through the archives to the 16th through 20th earlier stories than the one you started out with.
HOW TO USE THE SEARCH FEATURE TO FIND STORIES
On every page of the Sky Valley Chronicle you’ll find a box at top of the page where you can type in a search word or words and then click the SEARCH button to find in the story archives what you are looking for.
EXAMPLE: if we know the story we want to find has to do with a Snohomish athlete we type in the search box the words SNOHOMISH ATHLETE then click the word SEARCH.
This will then bring up a page that has all the stories on it that contain the words “Snohomish athlete.”
HOW TO CUSTOMIZE SKY VALLEY CHRONICLE TO SUIT YOUR TASTES AND NEEDS
You must be a registered user to use this feature. Just go to the top of the front page and lick where it says REGISTER.
Once you are a registered user and have “logged in” see the top of the front page where it says CUSTOMIZE and click that word.
Once logged in you can change your user preferences data, customize the Chronicle by changing the front and color scheme to fit your tastes, edit your user information, etc.
There are also options you can change such as MY NEWS PREFERENCES that changes the number of headlines you see displayed (five headlines is the default number.) You can also change you weather notification preference by city, etc.
Registering also allows you to place FREE CLASSIFIED ADS if you are an individual (businesses pay a small fee) including a free ad for lost or found pet where you can also include a picture.
Once you are done doing what you wish to do while logged in – such AS using a public forum for talk with neighbors, posting to classifieds, changing the Chronicle preferences to fit your tastes etc - be sure and click LOG OUT up at the top of the page.
That pretty much is it. If we left something out or if something is not clear, please write us.
