September 07, 2014

(INDEX, WA) -- The state patrol says two people were injured in a collision on State Route 2 not far from Index Saturday evening.

The accident happened about 10:40 pm at milepost 17 just west of Index a few miles and involved a Honda and an Audi. See map at right.

A 1997 Honda Civic 4-Door was traveling westbound on the highway and a 2007 Audi A6 was headed eastbound. The Honda was passing vehicles in the eastbound lanes and smashed into the Audi that was also in the eastbound lane, according to the patrol report.

Badly injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle was the driver of the Honda, identified as 23-year old Bryan N. Scott of Tacoma. It was not known if he was wearing a seat belt.

Also injured and taken to Valley General Hospital in Monroe was the driver of the Audi, identified as Daryl L. Blanton, 52, of Fresno, California. It was not known if he was wearing a seat belt.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. The WSP report lists the cause of the accident as illegal passing/driving over center line. The patrol report says it is believed drugs or alcohol was a factor in the collision.
