(INDEX, WA) -- The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who was killed near Index by a hit and run driver as 47-year old Stacy Lain Broyles.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the driver of the car that struck both Mr. Broyles and his dog.

“On Saturday, August 4 at approximately 11:00 pm a 47 year-old Index man was walking eastbound with his dog on Index-Galena Rd. At the 50700 block, both the man and dog were struck head-on by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene,” said Shari Ireton, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Broyles was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he later died of blunt force injuries to the torso. The Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death as an accident.

The dog, which also died later, was transported to Pilchuck Veterinary Center.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public about this accident, which Ireton says likely occurred between 11:00 and 11:15 pm on Saturday, August 4.

Anyone with information or who can help identify the driver and/or vehicle involved can call the Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 425-388-3845.
