(GOLD BAR, WA.) -- A spokesperson for the Snohomish County Sheriff's office says a woman who suffered a possible broken ankle while hiking to Lake Serene was assisted out by search and rescue crews Monday night.

"A friend of the victim called 911 around 4:45 p.m. to report the injury.  The Sultan Fire District, Gold Bar Fire District, and Index Fire District assisted the Sheriff’s Office and Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue in reaching her around 6:30 p.m. and safely packing her out," said spokesperson Shari Ireton.

The woman, whose identity was not released was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The Lake Serene trail, located here in the Sky Valley is one of the most popular hiking trails in western Washington. It leads to the picturesque Lake Serene seen at upper right.

Other popular trails located nearby the Lake Serene trail are the Barclay Lake trail, the Iron Goat Trial, Martin Creek Trail and the Scenic Trail.

On sunny weekends in the summer they can tend to look like a busy highway, only with bodies instead of cars.
