Gold Bar crime by the numbers in pretty colored charts. CLICK TO OPEN
(GOLD BAR, WA.) -- It goes without saying that February was another month of thievery, weirdness and skulduggery of all sorts in the midst of the decent God fearing men and women of Gold Bar and Index.
What's happened to this country? Never mind. We have a lot of ground to cover and there may be a test on this stuff later so pay attention and keep your hands to yourselves.
Drugs & dope fiends: Sheriff's deputies responded to a suspicious circumstances report on Evergreen Way in Gold Bar and were "contacted by a male who exhibited effects of a stimulant or hallucinatory drug, followed by loss of consciousness due to apparent overdose on an opiate such as heroin."
Naloxone, administered by aid/medical personnel, revived the guy. Lucky dude. Naloxone (also called Narcan) for those of you who are not dope heads is the antidote that reverses an opioid overdose.
It's been used in ambulances and hospitals for decades to reverse overdoses and save the lives of untold numbers of people. It's amazing stuff. It works by neutralizing the opioids in your system and helping you breathe again.
Naloxone only works if a person has opioids in their system; the medication doesn't work on other drugs. You can't get high from it and it is safe for nearly everyone. (Or so we're told).
Naloxone is described in the literature as as "an important tool for empowering communities to protect their health. Reviving an overdose victim can be a very powerful motivator to help people change their behaviors."
You'll be pleased to know that as many as 100 Snohomish County Sheriff's Deputies are scheduled to be trained and equipped with Naloxone beginning later this year, eliminating the need to wait for aid personnel and increasing the odds of saving lives.
And you read about that first here, in the mighty Chronicle. We're always ahead of the curve.
Four vehicle thefts were reported within Gold Bar with more occurring outside of town. Three vehicles were stolen, with one vehicle stolen a second time (whaaaa??) just days after it was recovered. Well, that was certainly rude.
One vehicle was recovered on Evergreen Place and another at the Stevens Pass No-Tell Motel.
Nuisance codes: The Snohomish Regional Drug and Gang Task Force has offered training and assistance to Sultan and Gold Bar Region deputies to enforce RCW 9.66.010 relating to public nuisances at locations where people congregate for the manufacture, distribution, purchase and/or use of illegal drugs. (In other words, training in how to deal with dope fiends and dope dealers and dope heads).
Fore those of you who don't know, RCW 9.66.010 has to do with defining a public nuisance which is, "A crime against the order and economy of the state." Seriously, that's what it says.
And a perp commits this crime every place...
(1) Wherein any fighting between people or animals or birds (a bird fight?) shall be conducted; or,
(2) Wherein any intoxicating liquors are kept for unlawful use, sale or distribution; or,
(3) Where vagrants (bums, hobos, zombies etc.) reside and run around naked and all drugged up on cheap wine and crack.
Activity Log: (incidents document by report within Gold Bar): 18 traffic tickets, 1 drug overdose (by a doper, not a regular guy), 1 burglary, 1 disturbance of the peace, 4 vehicle thefts, 2 vandalisms, 1 assault, 2 thefts, 1 fraud -counterfeit money, 1 warrant arrest.
And by God this stuff better come to an end and soon. Don't make us get up off this couch and open up a can of you-know-what.
Firewood theft: the local gendarmes say there's been reports of evidence of the "theft of timber products for firewood" noted along Reiter Road and the Index-Galena Road outside of town.
And although the men and women of the Thin Blue Line assure us that "persons of interest for wood theft in other locations are under scrutiny," no person(s) of interest are identified relating to the Index area wood theft.
What's wrong with you idiots out there stealing wood? Can't you cut your own? Are you woosies? Are you little girlie-girls? Not strong enough to put down the crack pipe long enough to lift an ax and act like a man? By God this stuff better come to a stop and pretty quick.
Speaking of thefts, despite increased use of the climbing wall, no significant occurrence of theft from vehicles was reported at the climbing wall parking lot. See? There's some good news in all this after all. Smile.
One DUI was reported but the driver was gone when the deputy arrived.
THE COLOR CHARTS
Now to the color charts (above and to the right) our favorite part. You will please note that the numbers above do not always match the numbers shown in the charts and that's because......well, it takes a long time to explain this and we don't have time.
Bottom line is the charts and tables compare calls for service in the reporting months to the same months in the previous year and provide a monthly average (Typical Month) in each category, blah, blah.
Data displayed is for all dispatch groups provided service by the Gold Bar Region (KK) and Index (RR) police agencies. All statistics may be viewed at Gold Bar City Hall if you show up there buck naked with your hair on fire.
Just kidding about that. You should probably wear some clothes.
