MAP of Yost Park. CLICK TO ENLARGE (EDMONDS, WA) -- Edmonds Police took four people into custody early Wednesday morning following numerous reports of shots fired in the area of Yost Park.
About 3:00 am, Edmonds Police officers were dispatched to numerous reports of shots fired in the area of Yost Park, said Edmonds Assistant Chief Gerry Gannon. The first officer arriving in the area found four individuals standing at the entrance of Yost Park. Two of the individuals ran away, with one running north, and the other running in a southwest direction. The remaining two people were taken into custody.
An Edmonds K9 unit tracked the two who got away from Yost Part to the area of City Park and before going into City Park, the dog’s handler, an officer Mehl, called out that his police dog Kira would be going in to search the park and at that time a suspect came out of woods and was taken into custody without incident.
City Park was then searched using police dogs from both Edmonds and Lynnwood but the fourth suspect was not found.
The firearm that was sued to fire the shots was not located on the three suspects that were in custody. Edmonds Detectives then went back to Yost Park in an attempt to locate the firearm and after about an hour of searching a pistol was found under a bush on the west side of the park, said Gannon.
During the subsequent investigation police were able to identify the fourth suspect involved in the incident.
The three individuals in custody were taken to the Snohomish County Jail and booked on local charges and warrants out of other jurisdictions.
At about 11:30 a.m. this morning the Edmonds Police Street Crimes Officers located the remaining suspect at his home in Edmonds and he was taken into custody without incident.
It was not immediately known why the gun was fired or if the weapon was discharged at another person or into the air or ground.
