SCHOOL LEVY BALLOTS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY TUESDAY
February 08, 2010

(EVERETT, WA) -- Voter’s ballots must be postmarked or turned in at a drop box by Tuesday in order to be counted in the all mail in election being held for eight Snohomish County school districts this month.

At stake is more than $1 Billion dollars in school levy funding.

The school districts that have levies up for approval by voters are:

Everett school district
Edmonds
Lake Stevens
Marysville
Mukilteo
Northsore
Snohomish
Sultan

All the districts have four-year levies up for voter approval that would replace expiring levies. The levies provide funding for things like salary increases, textbooks, athletics and other extracurricular programs and other things such as building maintenance.

School districts get about 75% of their operating budget money from the state and many look to local levies to pick up another 20%.
