Traffic jam on I-5
(SEATTLE, WA.) -- Wash. State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT) says with work taking place on westbound I-90, the I-5 express lanes and eastbound State Route 520, expect to see "significant delays throughout the region this weekend," according to a WSDOT statement.
Beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday 3/24 traffic will be reduced to one lane near Bellevue Way and routed to the express lanes until 5 a.m. Monday.
Traffic Delays: Backups will start around 8 a.m. and continue through the evening hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Prepare for slowdowns to begin as far back as I-405.
I-5 Express Lanes:
The southbound I-5 express lanes WILL NOT open for the morning commute on Saturday or Sunday. The lanes will open northbound at 1:30 p.m.
Backups will start around 8 a.m. and continue through the evening hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Prepare for slowdowns to begin as far back as Snohomish County.
Eastbound SR 520:
All eastbound SR 520 lanes between Montlake Boulevard and the on-ramp from Lake Washington Boulevard East, and the eastbound on-ramp from Montlake Boulevard are scheduled to close:
11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the nights of March 23, 26-30.
11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. the night of March 25.
Traffic Delays: While the eastbound SR 520 closures will be late at night, travelers will still see delays at the Montlake Boulevard exit.
So if you’re heading toward downtown Seattle this weekend or even over to Bellevue, leave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.
Special Events: Seattle Sounders & Key Arena
The boys in Rave Green are back in action at CenturyLink Field this weekend as the Sounders face off against Mexico’s Club Necaxa for an international exhibition match. The kick-off is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 so expect a lot more traffic than usual around the stadiums throughout most of the day.
Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there, considering the I-90 detour and I-5 Express Lane closures happening this weekend.
KeyArena also has a big event this week. Ariana Grande, the pint-sized performer with the booming voice takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday night as she continues on her Dangerous Woman tour. Plan ahead to avoid the backups around downtown Seattle later this evening.
Then on Tuesday March 28 country music superstar Chris Stapleton will perform at KeyArena to close out his latest tour. That means lots of traffic around the Seattle Center on Tuesday.
