(EVERETT, WA.) -- Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the murder of a woman in the early morning hours Wednesday near Everett.

The woman was killed in residence in the 3100 block of York Road, in unincorporated Snohomish County not far from Mukilteo.

"Around 2 a.m., several calls were made to 911 from several people in the area reporting that they could hear the sounds of gunshots," said sheriff's office spokesperson Shari Ireton. "When deputies arrived, they found a deceased female inside the residence with obvious gunshot wounds. Another adult female and three children were also inside the house."

It was not disclosed what relationship, if any, the dead woman had with the children and/or the other adult woman in the home.

Broadcast news reports said the unidentified dead woman was in her 20's. There were no other injuries or deaths reported.

As of early Wednesday a suspect had not been identified and authorities had not disclosed what the other woman or children in the home had to say about what happened.

York Rd between Beverly Park Rd and Alexander Rd was closed for several hours for the investigation.
