TODAY IS THE DAY FOR SCHOOL LEVY BALLOTS TO BE IN

(EVERETT, WA) -- Today’s the day voter’s ballots have to be either postmarked or turned in at a drop box in order to be counted in the all mail in levy elections for eight Snohomish County school districts.

There is more than $1 Billion dollars in school levy funding for the districts represented in the voting. Those districts are:

Everett school district
Edmonds
Lake Stevens
Marysville
Mukilteo
Northsore
Snohomish
Sultan

All districts have four-year levies up for voter approval that would replace expiring levies. The levies provide money for things like salary increases, textbooks, athletics and other extracurricular programs and other things such as building maintenance.

In the Sky Valley’s Sultan district, which has a bit 1,900 students enrolled, the levy represents about 17% of the district’s operating budget.

If passed the levy would bring in for the district a bit over $4 Million dollars and in 2011 would set a homeowner’s assessment rate at $3.09 per $1,000 of assessed value. That’s a bump of 21 cents from the rate this year.

For a homeowner with a residence worth $250,00 that represents $772.50 per year due or $63.38 per month. By 2014 the rate would go to $3.63 a month, bringing the annual due to $907.50 or $75.63 a month.

If the levy rate ends up being higher than is actually needed by the district, homeowners will be sent lower-than-expected bills to compensate for the overage included in the levy.

The levies need a simple majority to pass.
