CLICK TO ENLARGE (PORT ANGELES, WA) -- John Arum, son of the world famous boxing promoter Bob Arum, is overdue from a climb in the North Cascade mountains and a search is underway.
John Arum, 49, an environmental lawyer with the Seattle firm of Ziontz, Chestnut, Varnell, Berley & Slonim, was expected to arrive home Sunday after climbing Storm King mountain, a craggy, 8,520 foot peak in the North Cascades beginning from near Park Creek Pass.
It is rated # 51 on a list of what are generally accepted to be the 100 highest summits in Washington State.
Arum, who graduated from the University of Washington Law School with honors in 1990, is an experienced mountain climber/hiker and is a board member of the Washington Environmental Council one of the major voices for protection of land, air, and water in Washington State.
Family members contacted authorities when he did not return home as scheduled. He was reported missing Monday, and is believed to be by himself in the area around the mountain. Two days of searching have not produced any sign of him although rangers reportedly found a campsite believed to be his but there was no sign of him around it.
John Arum has been pursuing a goal of climbing the 100 highest summits in Washington.
Bob Arum learned of his son being over due while in Los Angeles to promote world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao's next bout against Antonio Margarito November 13 and was reported to be on his way to the search area.
