(WENATCHEE, WA) -- — New pledge money has given the Mackenzie Cowell reward fund a huge boost. A group of Wenatchee business people has pledged to add $38,000 to an existing fund if a tip leads to a conviction in the murder of the 17-year-old Wenatchee High School student.
The group, called Wenatchee Valley Citizens Against Crime, is now set up as a nonprofit organization and the pledge money would be added to the existing reward fund of $7,000 if someone provides a tip that leads to the conviction of the person responisble for Cowell’s death.
People wanting to leave a tip for law enforcement can call the RiverCom dispatch center at 509-663-9911.
A second source of reward money has also been established. This one is for people who want to supply a tip but who wish to remain anonymous. Those people can contact the Crime Stoppers line at 509-888-4280 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Reward money in that case is $5,000. It would become available to anyone whose tip leads to the filing of criminal charges against the person or people responsible for the death.
Mackenzie Cowell’s body was found Feb. 13 along a riverbank at Crescent Bar. Her car was found abandoned up Pitcher Canyon Road on Feb. 9. She was last seen that afternoon of the 9th, leaving the Academy of Hair Design in downtown Wenatchee. Investigators have not released her cause of death.
