Moderate To Severe Flooding Expected
On Snoqualmie River
Minor flooding expected on several others

(KING COUNTY, WA.) -- King County Flood Control issued a Flood Alert just before 12:30 am Wednesday saying that the Snoqualmie River had reached Flood Phase 3 and that "moderate flooding" was expected in the low lying areas throughout the Snoqualmie Valley.

At the same time an alert was issued for the Tolt River in King County saying that river had reached Flood Stage 2 and that "minor flooding" may occur with San Souci area homes becoming inaccessible.

Flood Warning for Snoqualmie river near Carnation from Wed.morning to Thursday morning. At 12:15 am Wednesday the stage was 51.2 feet. Flood stage is 54.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The river will rise above flood stage around 9 am Wednesday and crest near 55.0 feet around 4 PM Wednesday. The river will fall below flood stage this evening. At 54.0 feet the Snoqualmie river will flood much of The Farm land and several roads from Fall City downstream through Carnation and Duvall.

Also Flood Warning for the Snoqualmie River near the falls. Minor flooding expected. The river will rise above flood flow around 4 am Wednesday and crest near 21359 cfs (cubic feet per second) around 10 am Wednesday. Impact at 20000 cfs, the Snoqualmie river will cause widespread flooding of pasture lands and roads along the river from the town of Snoqualmie downstream through Fall City. Roads that may become flooded include Fall City-Carnation... Tolt Hill... and Novelty flats roads. This river level on the Snoqualmie corresponds roughly to a phase 3 flood (moderate flooding) in the King County flood system.

Stilliguamish River - minor flooding expected (flood phase 2)
Skykomish River near Gold Bar - minor flooding expected (flood phase 2)
Skykomish North Fork - minor flooding expected (flood phase 2)
Skykomish South Fork - minor flooding expected (flood phase 2)

Other Rivers: below are verbatim flood stage warnings from National Weather Service from early Wed. morning:

Stilliguamish River: Heavy Rain over the West Slopes of the Cascades will Drive The Stillagaumish River, Both the Main Stem and the South Fork, Above Flood Stage in the Next Few Hours, with Minor Flooding Tues. night And Wednesday Morning.

The National Weather Service in Seattle has Issued A Flood Warning For The South Fork Stillaguamish River near Granite Falls Until Wednesday Morning. At 11:15pm Tuesday the Stage was 13.9 Feet. Flood Stage is 14.0 Feet. Minor Flooding is Forecast. At 14.0 Feet, the South Fork Stillaguamish River will Cause Flooding Along the River and Tributaries.

Do Not Drive Cars, vans, trucks Through Flooded Areas. This Is The Cause of Most Flood Related Deaths in Washington. Be Alert For Rapid Changes and Monitor Developments by Listening to Noaa Weather Radio or Other Local Media.

Skykomish River near Gold Bar Affecting Snohomish County: Heavy Rain over the West Slopes of the Cascades will Drive The Skykomish River Above Flood Stage, With Minor Flooding Tuesday night and Wednesday Morning.

Flood Warning For The Skykomish River near Gold Bar through Wednesday afternoon. At 10:30pm Tuesday the Stage was 14.1 Feet. Flood Stage is 15.0 Feet Minor Flooding is Forecast. The river will crest around 4 am Wed. Minor Flooding Expected of Low Pasture Lands and Low Lying Roads, Including Index - Galena Road and Tualco Loop Road.

As of 4:00 am...Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon... portions of northwest Washington and west central Washington, including the following counties, in northwest Washington, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Skagit, and Whatcom. In west central Washington, King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston through Thursday afternoon.

Rainfall from the Tuesday/Tuesday night system amounted to generally 2 to 5.5 inches over the Olympic Mountains and 1 to 4 inches over the Cascades, while the snow level was around 9000 feet. There will be some more precipitation today with the snow level around 7500 feet, but it will be - relatively speaking - a break between systems. The next front will move through tonight and Thanksgiving day, with a forecast of generally 2 to 4 inches over the Olympics and 1.5 to 3.5 inches over the Cascades. The snow level will be around 7500 feet as this system arrives, falling to 4500 feet late Thursday as precipitation decreases.

Flooding is already occurring on several western Washington rivers. With this second round of rainfall tonight and Thursday, there is a possibility that flooding will become more widespread and/or prolonged. There is at least a minor threat that any flood-prone river in our area reaching flood stage.
