(GOLD BAR, WA) -- If you were to ask 13-year old Jazmine Morgan, daughter of Heidi and Donovan Cate of Gold Bar, how her Labor Day Weekend went she might say pretty darned good. She might even say, “Are you kidding? It was great!

Jazmine, an 8th grader at Sultan Middle School, competed against 78 other girls from around the state and won the Miss Washington Preteen Pageant over Labor Day weekend at the Bellevue Hilton.

Her new, official title is Miss Washington Preteen 2010-2011.

And this wasn’t just another beauty pageant (in fact, no makeup allowed).

The National American Miss Pageants are, in the pageant producer’s words, for “Today’s Girl” and “Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

That means the competition is based on inner beauty as well as poise, presentation and other elements and offers an “All American Spirit” of fun for family and friends.

Emphasis is also placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition and setting and achieving personal goals.

The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.

WILL COMPETE IN NATIONALS

The win means Jazmine has earned the opportunity to attend the Nationals so she’ll be off to Disneyland in Anaheim, California on Thanksgiving week to compete in the National Pageant.

Jazmine will be representing Washington State at the event, where she’ll have the opportunity to win her share of over $500,000 in cash and prizes.

Jazmine – who’s also involved with band at her school, volleyball, soccer and the Sultan Lip Sync contest - has been competing for 2 years in pageants.

She got her start in Gold Bar and the Gold Dust Days pageant sponsored by the local Red Hat Ladies.

One of the Red Hat Ladies, Karen Howard from Gold Bar loaned Jazmine the dress that she wore for her formal gown competition.

HELP SPONSOR JAZMINE TO NATIONALS

Jazmine needs sponsors in the community to help her raise the funds needed to get to Nationals.

If you’d like to help with a donation please shoot us an email at info@skyvalleychronicle.com and we’ll pass your phone number and other contact info to Jazmine’s folks.

Fair Disclosure: The scribes at the mighty Chronicle think supporting Jazmine is a spiffy idea since she worked hard to win the state event and will be representing her community and state at nationals.

Plus we think she’s a great role model for other Sky Valley teens. So we plan to put a few shekels into the pot to help Jazmine get there.

We urge all other area media (newspapers, TV, radio, websites, blogs, etc) to do the same.

If you’d like to support Jazmine in raising funds to go to the national pageant you can mail a check or money order to:

Jazmine Morgan
PO Box 635, Gold Bar, WA 98251

She will gladly send out receipts to any and all donors for tax purposes and will keep the community updated on her events.
