The grand ol’ dame of county fairs in our state, The Evergreen State Fair was ranked # 1 last year in Washington State County Fairs by carnivalwarehouse.com. In 2007 some 882,000 people went through the turnstiles.
Whether its fast rides like the Zipper and the Zillerator Coaster you like - or slower more sedate kiddie rides, 4-H animals (sheep, goats cattle, poultry, horses, dogs, cats you name it) lots of fun food, crafts and hobby displays or midway games - the Evergreen Fair’s got it all. There’s plenty of music at the fair too with concerts from the likes of Jars of Clay with Leeland, Weird Al Yankovic and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
This year’s Evergreen Fair celebrates 100 years of entertaining Snohomish County families with good ol’ fashioned county fair fun. So if you know someone who is 100 years old or more tell him or her the Evergreen State Fair needs their participation.
To celebrate the fair’s 100th birthday fair officials want to set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of centenarians this coming Monday. So anyone who is 90 years of age or older gets into the fair free every day the fair is open. This Monday is also free for everyone age 62 and older.
This year’s fair also features a "Contest-A-Day" where fair attendees can take a crack at setting their own records at fun events like pie eating, hula-hoop races and bubble gum blowing. The fair also hopes to make it into the Guinness Book Of World Records by assembling the most people ever to do the Hokey Pokey on Aug. 31st.
And as part of the fun Monroe’s Fair Day Parade takes place tomorrow at 11:00 am on Main Street. The parade runs from 179th Street to Blakeley Street.
The fair is open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
