(KING COUNTY, WA.) -- Washington State Patrol detectives are looking for witnesses to a serious accident on I-90 this week that left several people injured.

About 3:42 pm on Monday December 4, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) detective was in a traffic backup eastbound on I-90, waiting to exit to State Route 18 in King County when she saw a white van in her rear view mirror spinning and coming to rest in lanes two and three of the freeway with heavy front end damage.

"Another vehicle was observed in the ditch with severe rear end damage. Two other vehicles were also involved in this collision with the occupants only sustaining minor injuries," said a WSP statement issued Thursday.

The detective backed up her patrol car to secure the scene and check for injuries and found the driver of the vehicle in the ditch was conscious and had sustained serious injuries. The driver of the white van was subsequently placed under arrest for Vehicular Assault due to the nature of the injuries and signs of impairment, according to the WSP statement.

This driver was identified as Tyler O. Riley, 27, of North Bend, Washington..

According to witnesses, the white van was driving erratically prior to the collision and failed to observe "that traffic was coming to a stop and struck the rear end of the first vehicle at a high rate of speed which also caused two other vehicles to be struck," said the WSP statement.

WSP detectives are now seeking to contact and speaak with any additional witnesses "to the erratic driving of the white van prior to this collision."

Witnesses are asked to contact WSP Detective Mauro at (425) 401-7746 or by email at victoria.mauro@wsp.wa.gov.
