Woman’s body found on Camano Island near bunker filled with
guns & ammo

March 06, 2018

(CAMANO ISLAND, WA.) – Who killed the woman and why? And what’s the deal with the guns and ammo buried in the dirt?

On the face of it, it seems a strange piece of crime business.

On Saturday March 3rd about 2:30 PM, deputies from the Island County Sheriff’s Office (Camano Island Precinct) were dispatched on a call of a found body. The body was located on an un-improved parcel of land near Tamarack Lane, on south Camano Island.

“Detectives from the Island County Sheriff’s Office along with the Island County Coroner’s Office and members of the Washington State Patrol Crime lab team served several search warrants on the property and recovered the body of a white female who had been deceased for several days,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office. “Based on the evidence it is believed she is the victim of a homicide.”

An ID on the woman along with cause of death is pending.

Near the woman's body detectives located “a bunker dug into the hill side which contained a cache of supplies, firearms and ammunition.”

The sheriff’s office says based on the available evidence it appears the dead woman “was specifically targeted” and this was not a random act of violence.

The sheriff’s office says it’s “developing leads on a person of interest in the case and hope to release that information in the near future.”

Anyone who wishes to provide information regarding the case should contact Detective Ed Wallace via the ICOM dispatch center at 360-679-9567 or tips@co.island.wa.us.
