(WHATCOM COUNTY, WA). -- A man from Custer, Washington was arrested Wednesday night on charges of child rape and voyeurism stemming from alleged sexual assaults of a former girlfriend’s young daughter about a decade ago.
Custer is a tiny hamlet of 366 people located right along Interstate 5 just northwest of Ferndale in Whatcom County.
The Bellingham Herald reported that Rene P. Dallas, 37, was booked Wednesday night on charges of first-degree child rape and voyeurism and was still in custody as of Friday evening according to county jail records.
The Whatcom County Sheriff's office says the event that brought the charges is ten years old and the victim, now a woman of 21, has just now reported it. The Custer man allegedly sexually abused the daughter of a then girlfriend, according to the newspaper report and the alleged rapes came to light during a mental-health counseling session.
The counselor encouraged the woman to notify authorities, she did, and based on her report the sheriff's office felt there was probable cause to make an arrest.
