(INTERNATIONAL) -- What was it? That is the burning question in China after some villagers reported seeing a "fireball" flashing thorough the sky and then something crashing to the ground at about 6:00 am Friday
According to Chinanews.com what came crashing down to earth were metal, ball-shaped objects. They hit the ground in villages in two counties administered by the city of Qiqihar.
Villagers in the Heilongjiang province in China reported seeing three UFOs flashing across the sky and it appeared to them that one of them came crashing down into a man’s vegetable garden.
Villagers in Mengchang reportedly saw three objects fall from the sky and soon after they said they heard huge piercing sound and a large ball of flame came crashing down into the vegetable garden of one of the villagers there.
What was found in the garden was a large metal ball covered by a layer of jagged material. The ball was reported to be about 2.5 feet wide and weighed about 90 pounds. The ball object has not been identified yet.
However Chinanews.com suggests the object could be related to the failure of a Russian rocket at about the same time of the sightings of the UFO's.
The rocket launch was at 3:42 am local time in Kazakhstan, which is 5:42 am in Beijing. The rocket failed 540 seconds into the flight at an altitude of nearly 100 miles. The rocket was carrying a satellite.
However, the head of the Russian national space agency, Roscosmos, told Russia Today the rocket and its cargo burned up in the atmosphere and should not have caused any damage on the ground.
