(PORT ORCHARD, WA.) -- It would appear a Kitsap County man is very lucky to be alive after being shot at close range Wednesday evening while he was in his bed.
The Kitsap County Sheriff's office in a lengthy statement on the case said the two people who are accused in the shooting of the 19-year old man and then stealing his car have been arrested.
The sheriff's office says deputies arrived at the residence in the 6900 block of East Dakota Street around 6:30 p.m. to find the victim with a gunshot wound to his arm and a "grazing head wound injury."
Here's the story the young man told officers. He said the three of them, himself and two other young people, a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were inside the home which belonged to a family member of the victim and that he had been sleeping when he awoke to find the man hovering over him holding a rifle, which the 22-year then fired at the victim hitting him in the arm.
"The victim said he escaped by jumping out of a second floor window and making his way to a neighboring residence, seeking assistance," said the sheriff's office statement.
The victim was transported by medic unit to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for further evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life threatening, said the sheriff's office statement.
The victim said the man who shot him then stole his Ford Mustang and he assumed the young woman went with that man in the car as well..
Early Thursday morning, detectives tracked down the stolen car to an apartment in the 800 block of South Summit Avenue in Bremerton, Washington
Detectives initiated contact with the people inside that apartment via a patrol car loudspeaker and eventually four people cam outside, including the two suspects in the shooting of the 19-year old.
Detective arrested the two suspects and impounded the stolen Mustang pending a search warrant. Later officers found a .22 caliber rifle in the trunk which they believe is the weapon used in the shooting.
The 22-year-old man was booked into the Kitsap County Jail with bail set at $1 million and the 19-year-old woman was booked into jail on a robbery charge with bail set at $250,000.
Authorities did not release the specific relationship that existed between the two suspects and the man who was shot or what the motive was for the shooting of the man while he was in bed.
