(NATIONAL) -- Starting in December, Comedy Central's popular program "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" gets a new host. He is Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old comedian from South Africa who made his debut as an on-air contributor on the broadcast.
The New York Times reported that Noah, after only three appearances on the show has won one of the most coveted jobs in comedy and all of television. The report says Comedy Central will announce today that Noah has been chosen as the new host of the show, succeeding Stewart who announced Feb. 10 that he would be stepping down later this year.
Noah talked to the Times by phone from Dubai, where he's on one leg of a comedy tour. He said his new jobs is a great opportunity, as well as a major challenge. “You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” Noah said of learning about his new job. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
Dubai is a "dry" country.
