(SNOHOMISH, WA.) – The state patrol says a suspected drunk driver crashed into another vehicle at mid morning Monday near Snohomish, a crash that shut down US Highway 2 for more than three hours.

The crash occurred about 2 miles north of the city of Snohomish.

At 11:41 am WSP Trooper H. Axtman tweeted, “Serious injury collision both directions of SR 2 just east of Hwy 9 is shut down for investigation. The causing driver has been arrested for DUI.”

A later report by the state patrol says around 10:40 am a white 2004 Chrysler Sebring and a white 2007 Dodge Ram Pickup were westbound on State Route 2 just east of SR 9, while a white 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup truck (hauling a gray trailer) and a gray 2008 Hyundai 4-Door were eastbound when the Chrysler “crossed the double yellow line” and crashed into the Chevy Silverado pickup.

On impact the trailer on the pickup “detached" and rolled to the eastbound shoulder while the Chrysler “continued eastbound and struck vehicle three (the gray Hyundai sedan) head on,” according to the WSP report.

The white Dodge Ram pickup was struck by debris from the accident and was damaged.

There was one injury reported, the driver of the gray Hyundai, identified as 46-year old Monica N. Gates of Spring Valley, California. She was transported to Providence Hospital in Everett. The Hyundai was totaled.

Not injured were:

~ The driver of the Chrysler Sebring (which was totaled), identified as 23-year old Jose M. Barrachacon of Brewster, Washington. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on a charge of “vehicular assault," according to the WSP.

~ The driver of the Chevy Silverado, identified as 40-year old Brandon M. Nybold of Tulalip, Washington.

~ The driver of the Dodge RAM pickup, not identified. From Stanwood, WA.

~ An 8-year old female child, a passenger in the Dodge RAM pickup.

The patrol report lists the cause of the accident as “crossing double yellow line” and adds that it is suspected that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
