State Patrol says man racing another car on Interstate 90 rolled his Nissan and died
March 04, 2018

(KITTITAS, WA.) – The Washington State patrol says a man, believed to have been racing another vehicle in his car, rolled his vehicle on Interstate 90 Saturday and was killed in the crash.

The incident happened just after 12 noon westbound on I-90 about 10 miles east of the tiny village of Kittitas, in Kittitas County in eastern Washington.

The patrol reports says a yellow 2005 Nissan Sentra was “believed to be racing another vehicle” when the driver lost control and “began to slide sideways in Lane 2” of the highway, then smashed into a rock bank in the median and rolled.

The vehicle, which was totaled, eventually came to rest ride side up in the median.

Killed in the crash was the driver of the Nissan, identified as 30-year old Jose M. Alay-Ortega of Quincy, Washington. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Injured and taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital was a passenger identified as Jose E. Herrera-Marcos, 28, also of Quincy.

The state patrol says it was unknown if drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash. The cause of the incident is still under investigation. There was no word on the other vehicle believed to have been racing the Nissan when the crash occurred.
