SULTAN BASIN ROAD TO CLOSE IN SEPTEMBER
July 15, 2008

(SULTAN, WA) -- Sultan Basin Road will be closed between US Highway 2 and 142nd Street SE beginning September 5, 2008 and continuing through October 7, 2008 to extend the sidewalk on the west side of Sultan Basin Road.

The road closure is necessary to install a retaining wall. Access to Sultan Basin Road will be via Rice Road and detour signs will be posted to assist drivers. The contractor has been offered an incentive to reopen the road to one-way traffic as quickly as possible.

The project is necessary to close a gap in the sidewalk between the Timber Ridge development at 142nd Street SE and the recently relocated intersection at US 2. This project is part of Sultan’s continuing effort to expand pedestrian and non-motorized facilities.

The contractor has sent written notification of the road closure to City Departments, Fire District 5, Sultan School District and the US Postal Service. Residents may contact City Engineer Jon Stack at 360-793-2231 if they have questions regarding this project.
