(MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA) -- Police in Melbourne say 36-year-old man who was renting a $30-a-night room at a house in the city through Airbnb was murdered on Wednesday night Oct. 25th by his three male hosts, according to a report in The Guardian newspaper.
One of the hosts also, according to police, raped the victim, Ramis Jonuzi with "an object." Police say Jonuzi, a bricklayer, had been staying at the house for less than a week before he was allegedly murdered.
Charged with murder in the case are 36-year old Craig Levy, Ryan Smart, 37 and Jason Colton, 41, according to The Guardian. Colton was also charged with raping Jonuzi.
The newspaper report said the cause of Jonuzi's death has not yet been released but that police earlier said he was in cardiac arrest and that paramedics had tried to revive him.
Airbnb issued a statement condemning the murder saying, "There is no place on Airbnb for such an abhorrent act, which violates everything our global community stands for. We have removed this listing from our platform and will fully co-operate with law enforcement on their investigation.”
