BREAKING NEWS | | PROSECUTORS GO FOR DEATH PENALTY FOR ALLEGED SEATTLE COP KILLER September 03, 2010

(SEATTLE, WA) -- King County's Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg filed the notice Thursday saying he'll seek the death penalty against Christopher Monfort if he is convicted of killing a Seattle police officer.
Satterberg said the intentional, premeditated and random slaying of a police officer “is deserving of the full measure of punishment under the law."
Monfort is charged with aggravated murder in the gunshot murder of Seattle Police officer Timothy Brenton as he sat in his patrol car with his partner on Halloween night.
He is also charged with the attempted murder of Brenton’s partner, Seattle Police Officer Britt Sweeney.
In addition to those charges Monfort also is charged with the attempted murder of one of the officers who arrested him and of the officers who could have been injured in the October 22nd firebombing of some vehicles that were parked at the police garage.
Monfort has pleaded not guilty.
