One motorcyclist killed, one critically injured in crash in Maple Valley
June 19, 2018

(MAPLE VALLEY, WA.) – The King County Sheriff’s office says one motorcyclist was killed and another was critically injured in a crash in Maple Valley Sunday night.

The accident happened about 8:40 pm Sunday evening at Southeast 251st and the Maple Valley-Black Diamond Road SE (SR 169).

“The investigation is on-going, but so far we know that 3 motorcycles were northbound on SR 169.  As they neared the intersection with SE 251 the road is three lanes (one lane in each direction with a center turn lane) a black sedan pulled out to turn southbound on SR 169,” said King County Sheriff Sgt. Ryan Abbott in a statement issued Monday night. “ The lead motorcycle impacted the left rear portion of the car, causing it to spin.  The second motorcycle struck the same sedan head on.  The third motorcycle was able to avoid any contact.”

The driver of the sedan, a 43-year old woman was transported to Valley Hospital for evaluation but did not appear injured.  The rider of the first motorcycle, a 54-year old man from Renton, Washington was killed. The second rider, a 35-year old man also from Renton was critically injured and airlifted to Harborview Hospital where he remains.

“Numerous witnesses have reported to Police that the motorcyclist’s may have been driving recklessly prior to the crash. Detectives are investigating those reports,” said Sgt. Abbott.
