BREAKING NEWS | | ONE CANADIAN KILLED AND ANOTHER SERIOUSLY HURT IN I-5 ACCIDENT AT ARLINGTON September 07, 2010

(ARLINGTON, WA) -- A young woman from Vancouver B.C. lost her life and another woman from the same city was badly injured when the car they were in went out of control early this morning on Interstate 5 at Arlington.
A spokesman for the Washington State Patrol said 25-year old Catherine H. Halliwell of Vancouver B.C. was seriously injured in the accident and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she later was pronounced dead.
The patrol says Halliwell was a passenger in a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder that was northbound on I-5 in lane 2 around 2:45 am Monday morning.
The patrol says at milepost 208 in Arlington the Pathfinder lost control, hydroplaned on the wet roadway surface and sailed counter clockwise into a left cement barrier.
On impact the rear hatch of the vehicle flipped open ejecting the two passengers, neither of whom were wearing a seat belt.
The patrol says the 2nd passenger, 26-year old Sara G. Edge also of Vancouver was transported to Cascade Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 22-year old Michael Vinitsky of Quebec, Canada – the only one in the vehicle to be wearing a seat belt on impact – was not injured.
The patrol says drugs or alcohol are believed to be a factor in the accident and the cause is under investigation.
