Missing teen hiker near Index, WA is safe and AOK

(INDEX, WA.) -- Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue teams were unable to locate a lost 16-year old hiker after an overnight Thursday-to-Friday ground search of an area near Lake Serene/Bridal Veil Falls trail.

The reason they did not find him, the sheriff's office found out later, is that the hiker - Fielremaroa Araya from Marysville (who goes by the nickname Fik) - had "caught a ride into Everett late last night and is safe and sound," according to a statement Friday from the sheriff's office.

There had been concern for the teen due to what the sheriff's office described in a news release as " medical issues which require daily medication" and the fact the teen was reportedly not dressed or equipped to stay overnight in the back country.

The sheriff's office said Araya was hiking with other teens and a counselor up to Lake Serene when he became separated from the group Thursday.

The counselor and the other teens searched the area for a couple of hours before calling 911 around 9:30 pm.
