Man shot in Seattle’s Northgate area
Shooter says man threatened him with knife

May 24, 2018

(SEATTLE, WA.) – Seattle Police Detectives are investigating a case where a man was shot in thew Northgate area and the shooter claims self defense.

Police say a man called 911 just before 6 pm Wednesday night to report he had “just shot a man” in the 11200 block of 8th Avenue Northeast, according to an SPD statement.

When officers arrive they found the man who called, along with the man he had shot. Officers provided first-aid to the shooting victim until Seattle Fire Department medics could take him to Harborview Medical Center.

“The shooter told officers he had been approached by the victim, who threatened him with a knife. The man then said he shot the victim, striking him four times,” says the police statement.

Officers searched the area and located a knife and also recovered the gun that was used. Detectives are now interviewing the man who unloaded four bullets from his gun and will work with the prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed.

State law allows a citizen to use deadly force if the citizen believes his or her life is in direct and imminent danger and there is no other recourse to using deadly force, such as retreat or running away.
