(KIRKLAND, WA.) – Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Kirkland where a man was shot and killed by Redmond Police officers.
Just before 5:00 pm today, Kirkland Police responded to a report of “shots fired” at the Kingsgate Safeway Gas Station located at 14444 124th Ave NE in Kirkland, according to a statement issued by Kirkland Police.
“Responding officers were quickly advised that Redmond Police Detectives had been involved in the incident, and an adult male suspect had been shot,” said Kirkland Police Lieutenant Rob Saloum. “Redmond Police Officers immediately began CPR on the injured male and called for AID to respond.
Efforts by Medics and Fire personnel to save the male were not successful, and the suspect died at the scene.”
No other details were provided by police such as what preceded the shooting, was the man who died armed, etc. No other persons were injured in the incident. The Kirkland Police Department was asked by the Redmond Police Department to conduct the investigation into the shooting.
“It is common practice by agencies to ask an outside agency to conduct officer involved investigations in an effort toward impartiality and transparency,” said the Kirkland PD statement.
The Kirkland Police Department’s Investigations Unit will conduct the investigation with the assistance of the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab.
