Man killed in confrontation with Snohomish County Sheriff's Deputies
January 22, 2018

Chronicle staff

(EBEY ISLAND, WA.) -- Authorities say a 35-year old man was killed in a confrontation with Snohomish County Sheriff's Deputies Sunday night.

The incident happened about 9 pm Sunday night in a parking lot near the intersection of 51st Ave. Southeast and 20th Street Southeast on Ebey Island, not far from Everett.

The man had been reported as suicidal by his wife at about 8 pm that night. She'd told officers he'd called her to say he wanted police to kill him but did not reveal his location. She said he'd left the house earlier that day to go hunting.

According to broadcast TV reports, deputies found the man's vehicle about 9 pm in that parking lot. He was reportedly behind his vehicle and officers told him to come out. When he did, officers said he was holding what appeared to be a weapon and deputies fired their service pistols.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the officers were injured. A firearm was recovered from the scene but it was not immediately known if the man was holding that weapon when he was shot.
