MOTORCYCLE RIDER KILLED IN WHATCOM COUNTY

yield right of way

(LYNDEN, WA) -- A motorcycle rider was killed on a state highway in Lynden in Whatcom County Thursday after a woman in a Mercedes failed to yield right of way, according to the state patrol.

The accident happened just after 4:45 pm. at the junction of SR 546 (also called Ea. Badger Rd.) and Bender Road.

The patrol’s Marysville office said a 2009 Harley Davidson SLSTF motorcycle was eastbound on State Route 546/Badger Rd. in Lynden when a woman driving a Mercedes was pulling out of a driveway near Bender Road, failed to yield to the motorcycle and ran into the motorcycle.
Deceased at the accident scene was the bike’s driver, 41-year old Brad J. Schuetze of Sumas, Washington.
The driver of the 2004 Mercedes Benz SUV, identified as 63-year old Susan B. Marton of Lynden was not injured.
Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. The state patrol says charges are pending against the driver of the Mercedes for failure to yield right of way.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected as causes of the accident.
