MAN CALLED ”HUMAN CORAL REEF” NOW CURED
September 22, 2009

38-year old Lin Tianzhuan of China who is now 98% cured of his rare skin disease with just a few discolored skin patches and no “shells” on his body.
(CHINA) -- 38-year old Lin Tianzhuan, of Shuimen, southern China is now almost totally cured and is no longer considered a “monster” in his hometown

Tianzhuan is the man they called the “shell man” or “human coral reef” due to rare, hard coral reef type growths that broke out on his skin and took over his life. (See picture to right. CLICK TO ENLARGE)

Tianzhuan first noticed the growths on his hands and feet when he was 13 years old. He says they started with a few hard bumps and over time got worse and worse, bigger and bigger until one day they “were all over my arms and legs, my back and even my head. It was as if I was turning to stone and it was terrifying.”

Eventually he came to live the life of a hermit, hiding at the family home from the general public. He was shunned by many friends and neighbors who called him “Coral Boy.”

Gradually the “shells” on his body became thicker and thicker and he could no longer bend his arms or legs

However Lin is recovering from his rare condition thanks to medics from a special skin clinic in China who have been treating him and are doing a major research study on his case.

Fuzhou Dermatosis Prevention Hospital vice president Dr Liu Yinghong said Lin’s hands, forearms, feet and calves “were covered with these dark brown hard shells, looking like dry branches. The seriousness and long-lasting nature of the disease shocked us."

But now after a year of treatment and surgery, Lin is making a full recovery with just a few discolored skin patches to show for his year’s long battle with the skin disease.
