MAN ARRESTED IN FATAL HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT IN KENMORE

(KENMORE, WA -- A 53-year old Kirkland man has been arrested for an early Friday morning fatal hit and run in Kenmore.
The accident occurred about 7:00am at NE160 and Juanita Dr. NE. Witnesses told police that a woman was crossing Juanita Dr NE in an uncontrolled crosswalk, going from east to west when she was struck by a southbound vehicle which stopped momentarily and then continued southbound.
The unidentified woman was airlifted to Harborview where she later died. Later broadcast reports identified the woman as 20-year old Sarah Paulsen who had been on her way to catch a bus to a local college.
King County Sheriff’s detectives were later contacted by Kirkland Police who said they received a call from a man claiming he had been in a hit and run.
Detectives spoke to the man at his apartment near the 14100 block of Juanita Dr. NE in Kirkland and confirmed he had been involved in the fatal accident, according to a spokeswoman for the King County Sheriff's Office.
The Kirkland man was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for felony hit and run. The victim’s name will officially be released by the medical examiner’s office.
Detective said they do not believe alcohol or drugs are a factor in the accident.
