KELSO MAN DIES IN FREAK BOW HUNTING ACCIDENT
September 12, 2010

(KELSO, WA) -- A 50-year old Kelso man has died in what authorities call a freak bow & arrow hunting accident, according to a report in the Longview Daily News.

The report says 50-year-old Benny White of Kelso was fatally injured Friday while hunting near Toutle, Washington with a friend who was behind him at the time of the accident.

The report says the two were walking and White was in the lead when he stopped suddenly and the hunting arrow in his friend’s compound bow pierced White’s back.

The report did not say if the bow was fired and it entered White’s back with the full force of the bowstring release or it pierced White’s back in another manner.

State officials say White's death is only the second archery fatality in the state. The first one, back in 1995, also occurred in Cowlitz County.

The full report on the accident is found HERE
