HIGHWAY 2 LANE CLOSURES EXPECTED TO START TODAY
September 15, 2008
(INDEX, WA) – Drivers heading over Highway 2 may experience single-lane closures on the busy highway near Index starting today. Construction crews will be working there on a $2.9 Million dollar project making permanent repairs to a segment of the highway that sank about seven feet during major flooding in 2006. Work on the major project is expected to continue through November.
Construction crews will build a steel-beam supported 200-foot-long wall to stabilize the portion of the highway that sunk down narrow, winding highway. Earlier the state put a temporary fix in place using 40-foot long “nails” that were drilled into the earth to stabilize it.
