(SEATTLE, WA.) -- Talk about scary. This one is right up there with Freddy Krueger in your dreams. It's the middle of the night. You're sound asleep in your nice comfy bed in your very own crib and you wake up to some maniac who's attacking you with a pickaxe.

Holy moly.

Seattle Police say they busted a 24-year old man in North Seattle early Friday morning after he did just that: walked into a home and attacked a man who was sleeping with a pickaxe.

Police say it happened about 3:30 am Friday. The resident of a home in the 13500 block of 16th Ave NE was fast asleep in bed when the young stranger walks into his bedroom and "hit him in the stomach with a pickaxe," according to an SPD statement.

The struggle for life is on. Sleeping man then, "Gabbed the axe, bit the suspect, dragged him out of the room and shouted for his son to call 911."

The victim and his son then pinned the attacker to the ground until police arrived.

"The victim sustained several small puncture wounds during the incident and was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries," said the police statement.

Talk about a vic who got lucky.

The cops believe the attacker - who does not know the man he attacked -"entered the home through an unlocked door."

So there you go. That's why cops keep telling people to lock their doors at night.

It really is good advice particularly when you consider there are actually guys walking around the hood at 3:30 am carrying a pickaxe and turning doorknobs...to see which ones are unlocked. Holy freaking moly.

Officers booked the pickaxe attacker into the county jail and "are investigating" the incident.
