GO 90MPH AND FILL STATE COFFERS
One candidate’s idea to beat the fiscal crisis

September 06, 2010

(NATIONAL) - From the “why didn’t we think of this” file comes the interesting tale of Nevada gubernatorial candidate Eugene "Gino" DiSimone and his novel idea to fix his state’s budget crisis.

Drive 90 mph and pay the state for the privilege of doing so.

Nonpartisan candidate DiSimone thinks people in his state would pay for the privilege to drive up to 90 mph on designated highways - and fill the state's empty money bin in the process.

DiSimone calls his idea the "free limit plan" and estimates it would bring in $1 Billion a year to his state.

First, vehicles would have to pass a safety inspection, then vehicle information would be loaded into a database, and motorists would purchase a special transponder.

After setting up an account, anyone in a hurry could dial in on the transponder and for $25 fee charged to a credit card, be free to speed on the state’s highways for 24 hours.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is not fond of the idea.
