BREAKING NEWS

First Weekend Closure Of Westbound Highway 2 between SR 204 Interchange & Homeacres on-ramp
Set for Friday

July 12, 2018

CLICK TO ENLARGE: Map shows Highway 2 closure area

Chronicle staff

(SNOHOMISH COUNTY) – Once again, state work crews really need full cooperation from Mother Nature in order to get in the following planned weekend closures of westbound US Highway 2 done.

They have to have absolutely NO no moisture (meaning it cannot rain) before and during the application of the new waterproof coating on the Highway 2 trestle.

So if the weather holds….

Westbound US Highway 2 between the SR 204 interchange and the Homeacres on-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, to 4 a.m. Monday, July 16.

The official detour route (SEE IMAGE AT ABOVE RIGHT) reverses traffic to be westbound only on 20th Street Southeast under the trestle, putting drivers back on westbound US 2 right before the I-5 interchange.

The state DOES expect major backups and delays, so drivers need to try something different to help keep traffic moving.

For future reference, here’s the updated list of the tentatively scheduled six weekend closures:

  • July 13 – July 16

  • July 20 – July 23

  • August 3 - August 6

  • August 10 - August 13

  • August 17 – August 20

  • September 7 – September 10

Each closure is from 7 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. All are weather-dependent. For future reference, the fifth and sixth weekends will use longer detour routes by way of SR 9.
