Father's Instinct
Saves Son's Life
Son had been trapped in car wreck for 30 hours

January 16, 2018

A father's instinct told him to hire a helicopter and today his son is alive because his father acted upon that instinct.
(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) - Tony Lethbridge of Australia listened to his instincts as a father and acted upon them. Today, his son is alive because of his bold action.

Lethbridge knew his son Samuel, 17, was in trouble and needed help because he had disappeared and that was out of character for Samuel who did not return by Sunday night to the family home at Lake Macquarie, after a Saturday night out with friends in Sydney, about 80 miles away.

"Everybody was saying, 'He’s probably run away and all that kind of stuff.' That’s just not Samuel,” Tony Lethbridge told Seven Network

The elder Lethbridge said he decided to hire a helicopter to look for his son because he remembered the story of a car accident from several years back where a man passed away because he'd been trapped in the wreckage of his car for 5 days and no one had found him in time.

He did not want that to happen to his son so he hired a helicopter to search for Samuel and sure enough, the chopper located the wreckage of the car where Samuel had been trapped for some 30 hours when his vehicle left a New South Wales highway on Sunday.

The helicopter found his boy within 15 minutes of searching. The wreckage was about 65 feet off a road, some 62 miles north of Sydney.

The chopper pilot told news reporters, “It was fairly easy to spot from the air. It would’ve been near impossible to see from the road because it was well below the road level."

It took emergency crews more than an hour to remove the teenager from the car, where he had been trapped under the dashboard.

Samuel suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized in serious condition with multiple fractures but is expected to survive.
