(SEATTLE, WA.) – Authorities say one person died in a late night Thursday crash in Seattle that brought down onto State Route 99 a huge highway overhead sign.
The crash happened just before 11 pm on SR99 near South Cloverdale Street and shut down for several hours both directions of SR 99.

The Seattle Fire department said a car hit a pole last night that was supporting the overhead sign. The car ended up in flames and the big sign crashed onto the highway. The unidentified driver died at the scene.
WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said at 3:21 Friday morning that the southbound lanes of SR 99 would be open around 3:40 am and the northbound lanes, “Will remain closed at 14 ave South. WSDOT estimated it will remain closed until noon on Friday. Please plan ahead as this will affect the morning drive in to Seattle.”
